Hi, I'm Stephanie.
Born and raised in the Nuremberg region, my life and that of my parents were turned completely upside down when I was five years old. It took four more years before a diagnosis could be made. The prognosis that I would probably be wheelchair-bound by the age of 15 at the latest presented our family with unexpected challenges. Since I've always been stubborn, this wasn't an option for me. I attended regular schools, completed my studies as a specialized teacher, and taught full-time at various middle schools for 30 years.
About 18 years ago (a good 15 years later than the doctors predicted), participating in life without a wheelchair was no longer possible. Since then, Hugo (my wheelchair) has been my constant companion. My illness/disability has made me the Stephanie I am today. It demanded strength, every time I was reduced to my disability. It imparted wisdom by putting me in situations others couldn't imagine. It showed me limits that had to be accepted. It taught me to acknowledge my own weaknesses and to ask for help. It shows me every day that every person is unique, their life is worth living, and they are worthy of love. Take the risk or lose the chance. My life is guided by this motto. Without self-empowerment, without empowerment for my own life, it will never be MY life. I unconsciously chose this empowerment when I was five years old. I would never claim it's easy. But only with full self-empowerment, with taking complete responsibility for my own life, can I shape MY life the way I want it. With or without a disability. To what extent have YOU already reached YOUR self-empowerment? In which areas of YOUR life would YOU like to have more of it? I wish you the courage to be completely YOU.
